The Marshall Brewing Grand Prix PINTwood Derby is a fundraiser and event proceeds will Support loCal yOUTh programS*

*Marshall Brewing Co. has opted not to specifically identify the youth programs that the Marshall Grand Prix proceeds will support. Marshall Brewing Co. produces craft beer for consumption by adults age 21 years and older and we would never expect any youth program to endorse a fundraising event at a brewery. That being said, Marshall Brewing Co. has, and always will, support our community, including youth programs. Also, brewery co-founders Eric Marshall and Adam Marshall are both Eagle Scouts and love pinecar racing.

Official Rules

GENERAL RACE RULES

1.  In order to race at the PINTWOOD DERBY, you must satisfy these requirements:

 - You must be 21 years of age or older.

- No one under the age of 21 will be admitted into race area.

2.  Previously raced cars may be entered. REPEATS and/or REPAINTS allowed.

3.  CHECK-IN

3.1. Each car must be weighed, track clearance checked, and inspected by a check-in official at the time a car is checked-in

3.2. After a car has been checked-in, only Marshall Brewing Company employees or race officials may handle the car (unless the car is an entry by the employee or race official).

3.3.  After check-in, car lubrication or repairs are not allowed, except for race day repairs that may be authorized by the Track Master or additional lubrication applied before a Division Championship Wave.

4.  RACE

4.1.  Good sportsmanship and behavior is expected. Race officials may ask anyone not following this rule to leave.

4.2.  A “Track Master” will monitor each race on the track.  Any ruling or determination required of Track Master during the race is FINAL.  A Track Master may consult with anyone he or she chooses in making his or her determination.

4.3.  Cars will race in waves of not more than 50 cars.  Each car in a wave will race 1 heat on each lane of the track.  Classic Division will have up to three waves (up to 150 cars total) and Outlaw Division will have one wave (up 50 cars total).  The 4 cars with the fastest speed from each Division will compete in a final Division Championship Wave of 4 heats (so all cars can race on each lane) to determine the winner for each Division.

4.4. If, during a race, one or more cars do not reach the finish line on the track, the Track Master will gently nudge the remaining cars over the finish line in the order such car or cars stopped on the track (i.e., the car closest to the finish line will be nudged first).

4.5. If, during a race, a car leaves the track without interfering with its opponent, it shall be considered to have ended its heat at that point.  After other racers have crossed the finish line, the Track Master may use whatever means he or she chooses to record a 4th place finish in the race management software for car that left the track.

4.6. If, during a race, a car leaves its lane and, in so doing, interferes with another racer, then the car at fault shall be declared to have lost the race heat.  The race heat will be rerun with the remaining 3 cars. Track Master may use whatever means he or she chooses to record a 4th place finish in the race management software for interfering car.

4.7. If a car leaves its lane, the Track Master, at his or her sole discretion, may inspect the track and, if a track fault is found which probably caused the initial violation, the Track Master may order the race to be rerun after the track is repaired.

4.8.  If a car suffers a mechanical problem during a heat race (e.g., wheels or weights sometimes falloff), the heat will not be rerun unless otherwise permitted by the rules (e.g., a track problem).  The Track Master may authorize the repair of a car in a designated repair area monitored by a designee of the Track Master.  If a repair cannot be completed in the lesser of 10 minutes or the time of a car's next heat race, the car will be disqualified from the rest of the race.  If the Track Master orders a heat to be rerun and authorizes the repair of a car to be rerun, the repair must be accomplished within 5 minutes.

5. CAR RULES APPLICABLE TO ALL DIVISIONS.

5.1. LUBRICATION:  For ALL DIVISIONS only DRY LUBRICANTS such as graphite or powdered teflon"white lube" will be allowed for lubricating the wheels. Lubricants may not foul the track. The Track Master has the final say if a car’s lubricant “fouls the track.”  In such event, the Track Master may either disqualify the car or authorize a “repair” to correct the lubrication issue.

5.2. APPLICATION OF LUBRICATION:  For all non-championship waves, lubrication MUST BE APPLIED WHEN THE CAR IS CHECKED-IN.  (We realize cars will be checked-in days in advance of the race. Earlier check-ins will race in an earlier wave.  We will make every effort to transport cars to the staging area with as little wheel movement as possible.  Choose a lubricant with staying power.)  For Division Championship Waves, each racer will be allowed to apply additional lubricant to a car racing in a Division Championship Wave prior to the start of such wave.

5.3. Details such as the steering wheel, driver, decals, painting, and interior detail are permissible as long as these details do not exceed the maximum length, width, and weight specifications.

5.4. Cars must be powered by gravity only.

5.5. No part of the car can extend past the starting pin.  The front of the car cannot be designed to gain an unfair advantage by shortening the distance between the start pin and the finish line sensor and the car design cannot otherwise interfere with a fair start.
